Chinese whisky tariff cut to come into force on Monday

Tariffs on Scotch whisky exports to China will be reduced from 10% to 5% and the reduction will take effect on Monday. The UK government estimates the deal will be worth £250m to the economy over the next five years. Scotch whisky generates more than £5bn in annual exports, with China one of its fastest-growing markets and currently the tenth largest by value. The tariff cut follows a separate agreement reducing duties on Scotch sales to India. Industry groups expect the reduction to help Scottish distillers compete internationally and support jobs and growth in the drinks sector.
