"I think I might have to cancel the work that you had booked in, because I'm heading to Parliament. And when I get there, I will make space for everyone doing jobs like mine, we will finally get a seat at the table."
"Plus, I just really love trying something new and not stopping until I crack it."
Hannah Spencer, a 34-year-old plumber from Greater Manchester, has made history as the Green Party's first ever Westminster by-election winner in Gorton and Denton. Spencer left formal education at 16 to pursue plumbing and recently enrolled in an intensive plastering course while campaigning. She currently leads the Greens on Trafford Council, representing Hale ward since May 2023, and previously stood as the party's mayoral candidate for Greater Manchester in 2024. Spencer emphasized her commitment to representing working-class perspectives in Parliament, pledging to create space for people in trades like hers. She now joins the Green Party's parliamentary group as its fifth MP, alongside Sian Berry, Adrian Ramsay, Carla Denyer, and Ellie Chowns.
