Maria Caulfield joined Reform UK a month ago after losing her Lewes seat and having served nine years as a Conservative MP and junior minister. Danny Kruger, a sitting Tory MP and shadow work and pensions minister, defected to Reform and was appointed head of preparing for government. A wave of senior Conservatives has shifted toward Reform in recent months, though few remain in parliament. Reform is cautious about accepting too many former Conservatives due to optics but seeks experienced figures because the party lacks government experience. Caulfield said she may seek a return as an MP with Reform.
