PM's ex-chief of staff to give evidence on Mandelson vetting
"Sir Olly Robbins stated that he had not seen UKSV documents but was informed in an oral briefing that Lord Mandelson's case was 'borderline' and manageable risks were possible."
"Sir Olly described an 'atmosphere of pressure' within his department to complete the vetting process for Lord Mandelson, who was later sacked due to his past associations."
Morgan McSweeney is set to provide evidence regarding his involvement in the security vetting of Lord Mandelson before the Foreign Affairs Committee. Accusations have emerged from Sir Olly Robbins, a former senior Foreign Office civil servant, claiming that No 10 exhibited a dismissive attitude towards the vetting process. Cat Little, the senior civil servant at the Cabinet Office, will also testify. Concerns were raised by the UK Security and Vetting team about Mandelson, yet he received security clearance. Sir Olly indicated that pressure existed to expedite the vetting process.
