"The leadership in Downing Street has to change,"
"I welcome the fact that there is now general acceptance that things have not been good enough, that there have been far too many mistakes and things have to change,"
"This was my decision, and my decision alone," he told reporters. "I was not part of any wider attempt or any wider organisation. I took the decision based upon what I am willing to tolerate."
Anas Sarwar urged Keir Starmer to step down, arguing that leadership in Downing Street must change and that repeated mistakes and scandals must end. Sarwar highlighted distractions such as Peter Mandelson's appointment despite Epstein links and insisted that there is now acceptance that performance has not been good enough. Sarwar denied being part of any wider attempt to remove Starmer, saying the decision was his alone and based on what he would tolerate. Sarwar suspended MSP Pam Duncan-Glancy after new information emerged about her relationship with convicted sex offender Sean Morton, and Lord Doyle was also suspended over links to Morton.
