
Ken Paxton won the Texas Republican primary against four-term Senator John Cornyn by a wide margin. Donald Trump celebrated the result early Wednesday, calling Paxton a common sense choice and saying Cornyn would remain his friend. Trump credited Paxton’s rise to becoming a respected senator and framed the campaign as a contest over loyalty to the president versus ties to the Republican establishment. Trump attacked Paxton’s likely Democratic general-election rival, Texas State Rep. James Talarico, criticizing his positions on open borders, crime, gender beliefs, and support for the military, and mocking his mask-wearing and veganism. Trump also disparaged Jasmine Crockett as a better alternative for Democrats than Talarico.
