At about 1:30 p.m., seven people were on an 18-foot pontoon boat on Flagstaff Lake near Cathedral Pines Campground. The bow began to submerge as the boat traveled; the driver attempted to raise it but the vessel flipped, throwing all seven passengers into the water about 180 feet from shore. Witnesses on shore and on the lake rescued the occupants and brought them to shore. Three passengers were unresponsive and received CPR. Farhana Nasir, 53, and Kiran Akbar, 23, died at the scene. Noor Nasir, 22, was airlifted to a Bangor hospital in critical condition. No one was wearing lifejackets, and investigators say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
