Tom Moser, a former Kerr County commissioner, advocated for a siren warning system after a deadly flood in 2016. His proposal faced funding issues and public opposition due to its cost. The recent floods in central Texas resulted in significant casualties, prompting inquiries into emergency preparedness. Moser believes state officials will now prioritize establishing effective warning systems and predicts a quicker, more efficient implementation. He estimates costs will be a few million dollars, emphasizing the importance of a reliable system in future severe weather events.
"People did not like the idea of sirens throughout the county," he added.
"I think it will be more robust, more reliable, more effective. And I don't think it's going to take very long to do," Moser said.
