Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth leveraged the threat of removing military support and evicting Scout troops from military bases to force these changes. The organization retains its current name and allows girls to participate, though it remains under Pentagon review. Hegseth expressed preference for the organization to return to its original Boy Scouts format. Scouting America will strengthen military ties through waived registration fees for military families, a new military service merit badge, and reinforced commitment to leadership, character, duty to God, duty to country, and service.
