"I always thought I would just elope because I didn't have a dad to walk me down the aisle,"
"The thought of not having him there made me too sad."
"His body was never recovered, so when I'm in New York I feel his presence. I remember looking at Noah and going, 'What if we do it here?'"
"I know my dad was smiling down, knowing I was taken care of,"
Kristin Schnacky was 3 when her father, Ken Marino, a New York City firefighter, was killed responding to the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001. Her mother, Katrina, never remarried, and Kristin feared not having a dad to walk her down the aisle. After getting engaged to singer Noah Schnacky, a visit to Manhattan prompted Kristin to choose the city for the wedding as a tribute. FDNY Rescue 1 active and retired firefighters stood lined up outside the Plaza Hotel, moving Kristin, her mother and brother to tears. The moment was captured in a viral TikTok and drew public remembrance of Marino.
