Denise Merker, 55, confessed to killing her newborn daughter over 33 years after the crime occurred. The infant, identified as Baby Jane Doe, was found dead in a plastic bag near Calverton, Long Island in September 1993. Merker allegedly admitted to stuffing a paper towel in the baby's mouth because she was crying. The case remained unsolved for nearly three decades until forensic investigative genetic genealogy helped identify both the child and the suspect. Merker, who was 22 at the time and worked as a dentist office manager, is now charged with second-degree murder and remains in custody awaiting trial.
