Mass. snowplow driver who spotted legs sticking out of snowbank praised for saving older man
"It looked fake - it didn't seem real when I saw it at first. I was doing my route, probably my third time around, when I was turning around and saw legs sticking out of the snow, pretty much just flailing."
"He couldn't reach the bottom - the snow was really powdery - so he had no way of pushing himself back out. It was scary."
"beyond grateful."
A Massachusetts snowplow driver, Matte McGarry, discovered an older man trapped face-down in about three feet of powdery snow along Burnett Street during a Sunday night winter storm. The man had fallen headfirst while walking home after a Patriots game and could not reach the bottom of the snowbank or push himself out. McGarry stopped his plow, pulled the man from the snow, and a nearby resident assisted in bringing the man to safety. The man showed signs of shock and cold exposure but survived and expressed profound gratitude. McGarry is expected to receive a commendation from the Auburn Board of Selectmen.
