"She had this very motherly energy, which is weird to say about a horse. I just always felt like she was going to take care of me. The two even had the same birthday, April 1, though Blumer was 8 and the horse - whom she called "Fancy" - was 12."
"Anybody else would have put that horse down a long time ago. Cox said. It's a testament to the care that Blumer has given her over the past 25 years."
"I did not come from a family who had horses. Blumer said, explaining her parents were not horse people. Blumer was shocked in June 2000 when her parents bought her the horse. Blumer quickly renamed her "Fancy," because, as she told her parents, "she was too fancy to be called anything else.""
Paige Blumer began riding lessons at age 5 and developed a passion for equestrian competition. She met a quarter horse named Josey Wales at her trainer's facility in Virginia, forming an immediate bond with the motherly horse. The two shared the same birthday and competed together successfully for years. When Blumer's trainer planned to sell the horse after breeding, Blumer convinced her parents to purchase her, renaming her Fancy. Over 25 years, Blumer provided exceptional care that enabled Fancy to reach 37 years old, earning Guinness World Records recognition as the world's oldest horse.
