"Rene Arzate Garcia's days as a narco-terrorist are numbered, James Nunnallee, DEA San Diego's acting special agent in charge, said during a Thursday news conference. His days as a plaza boss for the Sinaloa cartel are numbered."
Federal authorities in San Diego have escalated enforcement against brothers Rene and Alfonso Arzate Garcia, high-ranking Sinaloa cartel members accused of controlling drug-trafficking routes from Baja California into San Diego for approximately 15 years. Officials announced $5 million bounties for information leading to their capture and unsealed a new narco-terrorism indictment against Rene Arzate, known as La Rana. The indictment alleges he has risen through cartel ranks to become a prolific drug trafficker and enforcer. Both brothers were previously designated as drug kingpins in 2023. The Arzate faction has engaged in violent conflict with opposing Sinaloa cartel factions allegedly allied with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel across Baja California.
