Serena Williams nears return eligibility; no plan announced
"Omg yall I'm NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy."
"If Serena decides to return and compete at the professional level, together with her fans, we will enthusiastically welcome the return of one of the greatest champions in the history of our sport."
"retiring"
"evolving away from tennis"
Serena Williams was listed by the International Tennis Integrity Agency as eligible to return to competition on Feb. 22 after registering with the ITIA six months earlier. Williams has not competed since the 2022 US Open and previously said she did not want to use the word "retiring," instead saying she was "evolving" away from tennis. Reinstatement requires athletes to provide whereabouts details and remain available for testing for six months before competing. Uncertainty remains about whether, when or where Williams will play again. The U.S. Tennis Association expressed that it would welcome her return if she decides to compete.
