Susan Rice, girlfriend of Binghamton's police chief, was involved in an altercation with two Black teenagers on July 18. The encounter escalated as Rice confronted the teens on a porch, making aggressive statements and threats. She physically attacked both teens, leading to self-defense action from the 16-year-old, which resulted in Rice being knocked unconscious. The incident attracted attention when police chief Joseph Zikuski removed her from the situation. Following the altercation, Rice was treated for injuries and later faced criminal charges.
Rice aggressively approached the boys aged 16 and 18, striking them before eventually getting knocked unconscious and arrested. She made threats and referred to them derogatorily.
Amid her escalating confrontation, Rice declared, 'This is my estate' and 'We are the police,' while implying the boys were lower-class by calling them 'Section 8'.
Upon intervention from her boyfriend, Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski, Rice charged the boys again, leading to her being knocked unconscious during self-defense.
Despite the situation escalating, Chief Zikuski remained calm, carrying Rice away without making any aggressive moves toward the teenagers involved.
