Shawn Clark, UCF assistant offensive line coach and former Appalachian State head coach, died Sunday at 50 after a medical emergency on Sept. 9. He had been hospitalized and was reported to be stable and making progress before his unexpected death. He was in his first year at UCF after compiling a 40-24 record at Appalachian State, where he previously played and coached, later becoming head coach following the 2019 season. Clark previously coached at Kent State, Purdue and Eastern Kentucky. UCF coaches, players and administrators expressed grief, praised his character, and pledged support for his wife Jonelle and children Giana and Braxton.
