"Part of an A road in a coastal beauty spot has collapsed and has been washed away into the sea after the area was battered by recent storms. A section of the A379 Slapton Line connecting Torcross and Slapton in Devon broke apart overnight after sea defences were destroyed in last month's storms. The southern section of the road and sheet piling at Torcross suffered significant damage, with one lane collapsed on a section of around 200 metres, Devon County Council said."
Recent storms severely battered a coastal area in Devon, causing part of the A379 Slapton Line between Torcross and Slapton to collapse and be washed into the sea. Sea defences were destroyed, sheet piling and the southern section of the road suffered significant damage, and one lane collapsed across roughly 200 metres. Part of Torcross Tank car park has been lost and local properties were damaged, with photographs and video showing sections of road and car park disappearing into the sea. Owners of The Start Bay Inn described the scene as "like a bomb has gone off" and said access is blocked by debris.
