Amazon has denied reports that it planned to show the impact of tariffs on its pricing. This denial followed a political outcry wherein the White House slammed the supposed move, urging transparency about cost increases tied to tariffs. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer encouraged companies to disclose how tariffs affect customer prices, suggesting that such transparency could help mitigate these costs. Meanwhile, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene acknowledged potential consumer benefits, such as easier identification of imported goods, although she initially expressed disappointment in the lack of a tariff tracker.
"To the large businesses that sell to consumers, I say: show your customers how much tariffs are hurting in their pocketbooks," Schumer said. 'People deserve to know the impact tariffs have on their finances.'
"White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called the reported move a 'hostile and political act,' arguing that Amazon should have displayed cost increases caused by inflation during President Joe Biden's term."
