Apple CEO Tim Cook, who is gay, attended a private White House screening of Melania in the East Room with about 70 guests. Other tech leaders present included Andy Jassy of Amazon, Eric Yuan of Zoom, and Lisa Su of AMD. The film is from Amazon Studios. The screening occurred hours after Border Patrol agents shot and killed 37-year-old nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis while he was observing and protesting operations. Video reportedly shows Pretti trying to help a pepper-sprayed woman before agents wrestled him down and shot him multiple times. Critics and social media users condemned the tech executives’ presence and called for Apple boycotts, citing prior killings such as that of Renee Nicole Good and questioning administration accounts of self-defense.
