Charlie Kirk killing: Suspect had 'obsession' with the conservative influencer, FBI says
"The suspect arrested in the fatal shooting Charlie Kirk had an "obsession" with the conservative influencer, based on the alleged shooter's digital footprint, FBI Co-Deputy Director Dan Bongino said Monday on Fox News."
""I believe co-workers stated he had detached himself when the topic of politics came up and walked away," Bongino said on Fox News."
""Did they ... hear it and think it was a joke? That is what we're trying to find out now," he told Fox News. "If there is a larger network here, we will get that out to the public as soon as we can.""
Tyler Robinson, 22, is accused of fatally shooting conservative influencer Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on Aug. 10. The suspect's digital footprint indicated an "obsession" with the influencer and exhibited multiple warning signs, including detaching from coworkers when politics were discussed. Investigators are examining online chats to determine whether anyone heard threats and did not alert authorities or treated them as jokes. DNA found on a towel wrapped around the firearm and on a screwdriver links Robinson to the scene. Robinson was arrested, booked into Utah County Jail, and faces charges including aggravated murder; charging documents are expected early this week. Robinson's father recognized him in released photos and prompted his surrender.
