Federal deployment of the National Guard to immigration protests in Los Angeles prompted California to sue the Trump administration. California Governor Gavin Newsom spoke out against the federal action and faced a threat of arrest from Trump’s border czar for allegedly interfering with immigration enforcement. President Trump publicly endorsed the arrest threat and was quoted saying the reason was that Newsom "ran for governor." Newsom responded defiantly, pledging to continue standing up for California.
