GOP senator demands Billie Eilish give up her Grammy because she denounced ICE - LGBTQ Nation
""I think Billie Eilish ought to give the Grammy back and probably her mansion, which, I guess, is on stolen land, too. It's ridiculous. It's... These people are completely out of touch, and so, whatever. Yeah.""
""no one is illegal on stolen land,""
""We do value the instance when Public Figures provide visibility to the true history of this country.""
""a blithering idiot""
Billie Eilish won the Grammy for Song of the Year for "Wildflower" and said during her acceptance speech, "no one is illegal on stolen land," referencing immigration policy. Sen. Eric Schmitt demanded she return the Grammy and her Los Angeles mansion, calling Grammys on stolen land unacceptable and criticizing public figures as out of touch. Right-wing media derided Eilish as "a blithering idiot" and questioned her right to own property on land once inhabited by the Tongva. A Tongva Nation spokesperson said public figures help provide visibility to the true history of the country. Sen. Ted Cruz raised the controversy during a Senate hearing. Sen. Schmitt has a record of opposing LGBTQ+ rights and received a 0 on HRC's Congressional Scorecard in the last session of Congress.
