"On Wednesday at 6:21 E.T., Patel said on social media that the subject in the shooting was in custody. However, at 7:59 ET, the director walked back that claim and said the subject had been released. Reporter Ryan J. Reilly of NBC News said that around the time Patel was posting, the director dined at Rao's on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Reilly said the FBI did not confirm his reporting and that Rao's declined to comment."
"On Thursday, Patel reportedly berated his agents working the Kirk case. The director wasted no time before calling out subordinates that he said failed to give him timely information and was incensed that agents in Salt Lake City waited nearly 12 hours to show him a photo of the suspected killer, according to three people familiar on the exchange, reported The New York Times. Patel has faced fierce criticism over his handling of the case, including from the right."
Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University. Police arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the murder; Robinson reportedly holds liberal political views. Patel dined at Rao's on Manhattan's Upper East Side the same evening. The FBI did not confirm the reporting and Rao's declined to comment. Patel reportedly berated agents for delayed information and has faced criticism, including comments from Steve Bannon and Dan Abrams.
