Gov. Gavin Newsom said the Trump administration blocked his scheduled World Economic Forum appearance in Davos to prevent him from speaking. Newsom labeled the action consistent with authoritarian tendencies and said it represented censorship and a reversal of freedoms of expression, assembly and speech. Newsom's planned Fortune event at the USA House was canceled after officials cited a "venue-level decision" to not include an elected U.S. official in programming. Newsom criticized corporate and university leaders for capitulating to the administration rather than challenging its policies and rhetoric, and later spoke at a separate event.
