"Nexstar Media Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXST), today announced that the company's owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the foreseeable future beginning with tonight's show."
"Mr. Kimmel's comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located, said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar's broadcasting division. Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue."
"Frankly, when you see stuff like this, I mean look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way, Carr said on Wednesday. These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there's going"
Nexstar announced that its owned and partner ABC-affiliated television stations will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the foreseeable future, starting with tonight's show. Nexstar cited objection to Kimmel's comments about the death of Charlie Kirk and called the remarks offensive and insensitive, saying they do not reflect the opinions, views, or values of the local communities it serves. Nexstar said it will replace the show with other programming to allow cooler heads to prevail and to promote respectful, constructive dialogue. During Monday's episode, Kimmel said Tyler Robinson, charged with killing Charlie Kirk, was a right-winger; charging documents say Robinson accused Kirk of spreading hate. Federal Communications Chair Brendan Carr publicly criticized the remarks and warned of potential action.
