People mad about Bad Bunny singing in Spanish are struggling to spell their anger out in English - LGBTQ Nation
"MAGA-infused outrage continues to swirl over the fact that a Puerto Rican artist headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday and performed his music in Spanish. Despite the fact that Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory and Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens, folks on the right have raged for months about Bad Bunny signing on for the big event, claiming it's somehow un-American. This, despite the fact that many actual non-Americans have headlined Super Bowl halftime shows in the past."
"The anger has continued after the performance, as well. And one X account, known as Patriot Takes, has taken to mocking a glaring grammatical error that keeps popping up in posts from people demanding that Bad Bunny and anyone else in America "speak English." The account also made its feelings on the matter very clear: "If the Spanish language triggers you, world flags anger you, and an uplifting message against hate sends you into a rage, you might be a white supremacist.""
MAGA-aligned critics responded angrily to a Puerto Rican artist headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show and performing primarily in Spanish. Puerto Rico's status as a U.S. territory and Puerto Ricans' U.S. citizenship did not prevent right-wing figures from calling the choice un-American. Critics' arguments ignored past halftime headliners who were not U.S. citizens. An X account called Patriot Takes mocked recurring grammar errors in demands that performers 'speak English' and labeled people outraged by Spanish and inclusive messages as white supremacists. Far-right group Turning Point USA staged a counterprogram featuring Kid Rock and only white performers.
