"Did you ask the head of the CDC that if she refused to sign off on your changes to the childhood vaccine schedule, that she had to resign? No, Kennedy answered, I told her that she had to resign because I asked her, Are you a trustworthy person?' And she said, No.' So if you had an employee who told you they were not trustworthy, would you ask them to resign, Senator?"
"So, I'm sorry, but this is not what she has said publicly, Warren continued. Well, I'm not surprised about that, Kennedy shot back. So, you're saying she's lying? Warren asked. Yes. Every conversation I had with her, there were witnesses. Let me get this straight. This is the same person that less than a month earlier, you stood next to her and described her as unimpeachable."
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dismissed CDC director Susan Monarez after she said she would not rubber-stamp unscientific orders. Several top CDC employees subsequently departed. During a Senate Finance Committee hearing, Kennedy said he asked Monarez if she was trustworthy and that she answered no, which prompted him to tell her to resign. Senators, including Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, reacted with disbelief and laughter and accused Kennedy of inconsistency for previously praising Monarez. Senators warned that the firings risk public health and called for Kennedy to resign.
