Ireland's deputy premier Simon Harris made public comments comparing actress Jessie Buckley and mixed martial artist Conor McGregor. Harris praised Buckley as representing the best of Ireland after she became the first Irish woman to win best actress at the Oscars. In contrast, Harris stated that McGregor represents the worst of Irish society. These comments came after reports of McGregor's presence in Washington, D.C. for St Patrick's Day celebrations. Harris's criticism follows McGregor's November 2024 civil liability finding in Dublin, where he was found liable in a damages case brought by Nikita Hand, who accused him of rape in December 2018.
