The US President criticized Keir Starmer for meeting President Xi Jinping and warned that closer UK–China ties are very dangerous. Starmer intends to thaw relations with Beijing and pursue increased trade. Two weeks earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney went to Beijing and signed an agreement lowering tariffs on electric vehicles. Carney said Canada is positioned "well for the new world order." The US President said Canada is doing poorly and warned against viewing China as the answer. The US President added that he knows President Xi well but called deeper Canada–China ties a big hurdle.
