US leadership issued renewed threats toward Iran while urging a negotiated agreement that eliminates nuclear weapons. An aircraft carrier group, including the USS Abraham Lincoln, arrived in Middle Eastern waters as military pressure increased. The threats referenced a prior operation called 'Operation Midnight Hammer' and warned that any future attack would be worse. Iran rejected diplomacy conducted under military threat and called for threats and excessive demands to be set aside before negotiations could succeed. Earlier threats this year linked to domestic protests in Iran were publicly walked back after assurances about planned executions.
