"MARIA BARTIROMO: Mr. President, do you think that the government shutdown is all about this rally that's happening this weekend, the No King's Rally? PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: No, I mean, some people say they want to delay it for that. A king! This is not an act. MARIA BARTIROMO: It's more than that. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: You know, they're saying they're referring to me as a king, I'm not a king."
"Well Chuck is, you know, at the end of the line. He's being beaten by everybody that they pull against it. I don't think it matters to him. I think he's just so dead that he'll do anything. They made one mistake. They didn't realize that that gives me the right to cut programs that Republicans never wanted. You know, giveaways, welfare programs, et cetera. And we're doing that. And we're cutting them permanently."
Activists organized more than 2,500 No Kings rallies nationwide, with prominent Democrats urging peaceful conduct and many Republican leaders labeling them 'Hate America' rallies. President Donald Trump dismissed being called a king and mocked the movement, explicitly denying the label. Trump attacked Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, calling him 'so dead' and blaming him for supporting projects now targeted by cuts. Trump said the standoff justified cutting programs Republicans never wanted, cited giveaways and welfare programs, and announced permanent cuts along with canceling a $20 billion project Schumer had supported for 15 years.
