"President Donald Trump's border czar, Tom Homan, has arrived in Minnesota to take charge of federal immigration operations. The Trump administration appears to be seeking a reset to its approach after national backlash over fatal shootings by federal agents. Homan is replacing Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino in leading Operation Metro Surge, the broad immigration enforcement effort in Minneapolis and surrounding areas, a senior administration official confirmed."
"Governor Walz met with Tom Homan this morning and reiterated Minnesota's priorities: impartial investigations into the Minneapolis shootings involving federal agents, a swift, significant reduction in the number of federal forces in Minnesota, and an end to the campaign of retribution against Minnesota," the governor's office announced. "The Governor and Homan agreed on the need for an ongoing dialogue and will continue working toward those goals, which the President also agreed to yesterday," the statement said."
"The shift follows the death of 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti, who was shot and killed by federal agents during enforcement actions earlier this month the second fatal shooting of a US citizen in Minneapolis this year after the killing of Renee Good. Protesters and local leaders have sharply criticized federal tactics and are demanding accountability and changes to the operation. In an apparent shift to a more conciliatory approach, Trump said he had "great calls" with Governor Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on Monday."
