Whoopi Goldberg condemned the killing of Minneapolis ICU nurse Alex Pretti and labeled it murder. The Trump administration initially claimed Pretti brandished a weapon and that Border Patrol officers acted in self-defense. Viral videos from multiple angles showed Pretti holding only a phone and an officer removing a handgun from Pretti's waistband before any shots were fired. Pretti held a legal concealed-carry permit at the time of his death. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the administration was investigating and indicated agents and bystanders would be interviewed, while suggesting Pretti impeded a law enforcement operation and caused officers to fear for their lives. Goldberg sharply criticized officials and held them responsible.
