Women and men diverge more than ever on support for abortion rights, poll shows
Briefly

Recent polling from Gallup reveals a growing gender gap in attitudes towards abortion following the fall of Roe v Wade. Currently, 61% of women identify as pro-choice, compared to just 41% of men, marking a departure from historical norms where the divide was typically no more than 10%. This disparity in support extends to beliefs about the morality and legality of abortion, with women showing significantly higher levels of support. Analysts suggest these trends indicate a stronger and more energized stance from women on abortion rights post-Roe.
For years, it was more the pro-life respondents who said that they will only support a candidate who shares their views on that issue. Whereas, since 2022, we've seen it flip.
Sudden political upsets do have the power to dramatically change people's beliefs. Typically, however, those changes don't last, and people revert to their norm views within a few years.
