In a recent talk at UX Scotland, the importance of ambitious design was emphasized, highlighting how creativity shapes perceptions and experiences. This design philosophy is encapsulated in ambitious ideas that serve as 'sticks in the ground', representing commitments to progress and community. Notably, initiatives like Barcelona's 'bicibus' excel in creating safe cycling experiences for children, demonstrating the power of collective efforts. Another example is the 'bike train' launched by Noss Primary School in Wick, demonstrating local efforts to enhance children's cycling safety and foster community connections through shared experiences.
Sometimes we can call these moments sticks in the ground. The bets we make on people, places, and what could be made possible.
Without seeing this idea made real, it's hard to imagine safe cycling for young children is even possible in a big city like Barcelona.
