Swastika scrawled on Brooklyn building as antisemitic attacks increase in NYC
"As we approached it, my friend let out a little gasp. We had walked a little past it, so we backed up and she pointed to it, and then I gasped. Wasserman took photos of the offensive graffiti and immediately called 911."
"The swastika is associated with Nazism and the murder of millions of Jews and others during the Holocaust."
"Hours later, Wasserman received a phone call from an officer who was at the location, accompanied by someone from the building, but they could not locate the graffiti."
A swastika was found scrawled on a vacant storefront at 16 Court Street in Brooklyn Heights on March 13, drawn with blue marker approximately the size of a baseball. Local resident JoAnne Wasserman discovered the offensive graffiti with her friend and immediately contacted police. Despite reporting the incident, initial police response failed to locate the symbol. Council Member Lincoln Restler became involved after Wasserman contacted his office, and he requested the city's sanitation department remove the hate symbol. The incident is being investigated as a hate crime and represents part of an escalating pattern of antisemitic incidents across New York City.
