Alex Hutchinson, head of Raccoon Logic, expressed his concerns regarding new games launching on subscription services like Xbox Game Pass, arguing it can devalue them and negatively impact the industry. While he acknowledged that his game, Revenge of the Savage Planet, saw significant traffic through Game Pass, he proposed that the industry should adopt a release model similar to movies, where games debut exclusively before going on subscription services. He warned that unless the current trend is reversed, the industry could face serious consequences in valuation of games.
Developer Raccoon Logic worked with Microsoft to bring Revenge of the Savage Planet to Xbox Game Pass as a day-one launch title, but studio head Alex Hutchinson said new games launching into Game Pass can "devalue" them and hurt the industry overall.
Hutchinson said the "whole industry should agree to only allow games on subscription services a year after release," suggesting that new games should have exclusive launches before joining services like Game Pass.
