Hideo Kojima faced a severe illness in 2020, which led him to question his future in gaming and consider life’s fragility. He felt as if he might never create again and expressed thoughts akin to despair, even drafting ideas for future games as a will. Following surgery that led to complications with his eyesight, he has experienced ongoing feelings of nervousness and pressure from his responsibilities. Despite these challenges, Kojima is preparing to release 'Death Stranding 2' and continues to work on additional projects in the pipeline.

I still have a lot of things I want to do--that I need to do. I thought I could do anything if I was independent, but the reality is that I can't.
