"In the latest episode of the Insider Gaming podcast, reliable knower of things Tom Henderson talks briefly about the rumoured metroidvania style God of War spinoff, which may well be getting revealed at the State of Play that is suppoed to occur in the coming weeks. You know, the one where Wolverine is supposed to show up. He then mentions that the next mainline game in the series will have similar themes, perhaps an indication that the spin-off may help setup in main game."
"Henderson also goes on to mention that Kratos will be wielding a sword. "...it's like an Egyptian sword, you know, like a curved Egyptian sword." says Hender. He then says it's "like what Prince of Persia's got." The team struggles to find the word for what it's called, but what they are looking for is a Khopesh, a distinctive type of blade."
"Henderson's words would seem to point toward the next game being set in ancient Egypt. This makes sense because both God of War 2018 and God of War: Ragnarock have dropped numerous hints toward Egypt. On top of that, the 2018 reboot was going to be set in Egypt originally before the team settled on Norse mythology."
Rumors indicate a metroidvania-style God of War spinoff may be revealed at an upcoming State of Play, and that the next mainline game will share Egyptian themes. Kratos is reported to wield a curved Egyptian-style sword resembling a Khopesh, compared to blades seen in Prince of Persia. Previous entries dropped hints toward Egypt, and the 2018 reboot was originally planned for an Egyptian setting before shifting to Norse mythology. The spinoff could center on Atreus exploring Egypt, encountering local gods and setting up events that lead into the next mainline installment. Sword identification remains tentative due to similar blades from other cultures.
