A federal court has halted President Trump's plan to impose substantial global tariffs, a decision that follows significant market concerns since its announcement in April. Although the court ruled against the tariffs broadly, it left room for a potential 15% import tax on certain countries for 150 days. The outcome could lead to refunds for companies affected by the tariffs. This situation had already prompted price adjustments from companies like Nintendo and Microsoft. Experts suggest that rising gaming prices may be due to factors beyond tariffs, as consumers are willing to pay more.
The US government may have to refund companies that paid the tariffs. George Mason University professor Ilya Somin, who worked on a related tariff case, told Politico, "Anybody that has had to pay tariffs so far will be able to get them refunded."
Nintendo cited Trump's tariffs as one of the reasons why Switch 2 preorders were initially delayed. While the Switch 2 price remains at $450, Nintendo did raise prices on some accessories.
