Washington Capitals defenseman Alex Alexeyev was fined $91 for his May 17 public intoxication incident, according to Russian media. He must pay the fine by October 21, and potentially avoid a misdemeanor charge by demonstrating good behavior. Following a physical altercation in Arlington, Alexeyev was arrested after being pepper-sprayed. Despite these challenges, the Capitals are looking to have him play more regularly in the future, as he has been a limited contributor in his four seasons, with 80 NHL games and just eight points.
According to Russian outlet TASS, Alexeyev was issued a $91 fine, which he must pay by October 21. If Alexeyev maintains 'good behavior' until that October date, his class 4 misdemeanor charge may be dropped.
The 25-year-old defender was booked into the Arlington County jail after being pepper-sprayed following a physical confrontation in the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington.
Brian MacLellan, the Caps' president of hockey operations, stated that the club would like to get the Russian blueliner into more games moving forward.
The 2018 first-round draft selection has played parts of four seasons with the Capitals, getting into 80 career NHL games. In those games, Alexeyev has eight career points (1g, 7a).
