Alex Ovechkin remains sidelined with lower-body injury for third-straight day of training camp
"Alex Ovechkin was not a participant in Capitals' Training Camp for a third straight day. According to Caps' head coach Spencer Carbery, Ovechkin's status remained unchanged and he is "still day-to-day." Ovechkin briefly participated in the first day of camp, but left the ice soon after the start of the skate. Carbery told reporters he wasn't worried about Ovechkin's health. "He came off early today, nothing significant," Carbery said on Thursday."
"Washington is set to play its first game of the preseason on Sunday against the Boston Bruins. From all appearances, Ovechkin will not be in the likely rookie-heavy lineup. The greatest goal-scorer in NHL history, Ovechkin is set to play his 21st season in the league this fall at age 40. He is nine games away from 1,500 in his career and three tallies away from hitting the 900-goals milestone."
Ovechkin remained day-to-day and did not participate in Capitals training camp for a third consecutive day. He briefly skated on the first day but exited early during the skate. No significant injury has been reported. The team opens preseason play Sunday against the Boston Bruins and Ovechkin appears unlikely to be in the rookie-heavy lineup. Ovechkin will enter his 21st NHL season at age 40, nine games short of 1,500 career games and three goals shy of 900 career goals.
