Declan Chisholm was 'kind of in shock' meeting Alex Ovechkin for the first time: 'I grew up watching him'
"It was pretty cool, he walked into the gym and he just dapped me up and he was like, 'Hey, I'm Alex,'"
"That's what my parents said. All my family were like, 'Did you say Alex who?' I was kind of in shock but it was good to meet him."
"I came down a week early just to get to know the staff and be familiar with just getting to the rink. I think I got lost the first time trying to get up the ramp,"
"I knew [Pierre-Luc Dubois] just from Winnipeg. [Training] camps and stuff. His dad coached me for three, four years [in the AHL] and I played a little bit with him,"
Declan Chisholm described being in awe when Alex Ovechkin greeted him at training camp. He grew up watching Ovechkin and felt a bit of shock meeting the captain. Chisholm joked that he should have said "Alex who?" and noted his family teased him about the moment. He arrived in Washington a week early to learn the rink and staff and admitted he got lost the first time trying to find the ramp. Chisholm reconnected with familiar faces like Pierre-Luc Dubois and Brandon Duhaime after being traded from Minnesota.
