Tocchet quits; Canucks 8th team seeking a coach
Briefly

Rick Tocchet has parted ways with the Vancouver Canucks, adding to the pool of available head coaching candidates. Despite a new lucrative contract offer from the team, Tocchet opted to leave for a different opportunity. Canucks president Jim Rutherford expressed disappointment but respected Tocchet's decision. Under Tocchet's leadership, the Canucks enjoyed their first playoffs appearance in three years, winning the Pacific Division with a strong season. The team is now one of eight in the NHL seeking a new coach this offseason.
After a very long and thorough process, unfortunately Rick has decided to leave the Vancouver Canucks. This is very disappointing news, but we respect Rick's decision to move to a new chapter in his hockey career.
Tocchet may have his mind somewhere else. I felt Tocchet and his staff did a good job coaching this team this year as they did in their first full campaign.
His first full year in charge saw the Canucks win 50 games, finish with 109 points and win the Pacific Division.
Rick felt he needed a change.
