The list is not compiled by counting votes or nominations. That said, we do accept nominations. Nominations are open for Washingtonian's 2026 500 Most Influential People in Policy list, an editorial project led by journalist David Catanese who interviews people across DC to identify influential policy figures. The list is compiled editorially rather than by votes, but nominations are accepted through the submission link. All nominations must be submitted by Friday, December 5, 2025, at noon. There is no charge to be included. Selection prioritizes deep subject-matter expertise, practical understanding of how Washington works, and focus on policy areas currently relevant to elected officials. The process excludes paid placement, big-name 'hired guns,' elected officials, and Capitol Hill or administration staffers.
