Nationals infielder Paul DeJong is sidelined for a month following a fractured nose from an errant pitch. Manager Dave Martinez indicated that DeJong wonât resume activities until about a month after his surgery on April 28, which was necessary for repairing his sinuses and orbital plate. This injury marks another challenge for DeJong, who was signed with hopes of a midseason trade. Washington is navigating a post-losing season, seeking clarity around their roster and future.
"I think now they said about a month before he can actually do any activities," Martinez said. "Hopefully we get him back sometime around the All-Star break, but we'll see."
Last week, Martinez told reporters that DeJong would undergo surgery on his nose, per Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com. That surgery would take place on April 28th, repairing his sinuses and orbital plate.
Though he was able to walk off the field after that scary situation, he was visibly bleeding and had to hold a towel to his face.
The Nationals likely signed DeJong with the hope of trading him midseason. DeJong was flipped prior to the deadline in each of the past two seasons.
