The World Marmalade Awards, held at Dalemain Mansion in Cumbria, showcases the charm of English eccentricity while drawing participants from across the globe. Founded in 2005 by Jane Hasell-McCosh as a response to the local foot-and-mouth crisis, the event has grown from a local competition into a vibrant festival, attracting over 3,200 entries this year. The festivities include unique marmalade flavors and culminated with Hitomi Wakamura from Tokyo winning with her yuzu and pear marmalade, marking the first overseas victory in the competition's history.
With more than 3,200 entries from around the world, the World Marmalade Awards have transformed from a local competition into a global celebration of marmalade innovation.
Jane Hasell-McCosh founded the World Marmalade Awards to revive tourism in Cumbria post foot-and-mouth crisis, using a love of marmalade to unite diverse participants.
