The Next Cool Wine Bar Is Opening in ... Newark
Briefly

Despite recent unfavorable news for the wine industry, wine bars are thriving, especially in areas like New York and Newark. The Consigliere wine bar, co-owned by lawyers Karl Fowlkes and Jarel Rosser, opens with the goal of appealing to younger people of color in Newark's downtown. Drawing inspiration from the former Club Zanzibar, the bar aims to create an inviting atmosphere with a unique blend of culinary and cultural influences, offering a hip space for conversation and enjoyment of wine without intimidation.
Fowlkes and Rosser aim to create a welcoming space for young Black professionals to enjoy wine and conversation, moving away from wine's intimidating image.
The design of Consigliere pays homage to Newark's past, inspired by Club Zanzibar, which enriched the Black, Latino, and LGBTQ communities with Soulful Jersey sound.
