The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, known as the Six Triple Eight, will receive the Congressional Gold Medal in honor of their significant contributions during World War II. This all-black, all-female unit effectively dealt with a major mail crisis while stationed in England, processing 17 million pieces in just three months. Despite their impactful service, the contributions of black military units were often overlooked. As a result, the recognition comes decades late, but highlights the bravery and dedication of these women, impacting generations to come, especially for black female service members.
These heroes deserve their dues, and I am so glad their story is being told. I am especially honored to ensure my constituent, Ms. Anna Mae Robertson, and the many others who served with her are recognized for their selfless service.
It is really important to recognize the accomplishments of these women and what they went through to serve their country in wartime.
